Canberra’s Josh Tonna to make ONE Super Series debut at ‘ONE: Pursuit of Power’ in Malaysia

Fighting out of Canberra, Australia, Josh “Timebomb” Tonna is competing in the ONE Championship ring for the first time. On July 13, 2018, the Australian kickboxer will face a Thai martial artist in the promotion’s striking-only league ONE Series at “ONE: Pursuit of Power” at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Tonna’s opponent at “ONE: Pursuit of Power” is Petchdam Kaiyanghadao of Bangkok, Thailand. In the first bout of the evening, they will battle it out in a Muay Thai contest in the flyweight division.

The champion of the division was crowned at “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams” on May 18, 2018 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. Sam-A Gaiyanghadao of Thailand and Singapore became the inaugural ONE Super Series Muay Thai Flyweight World Champion by defeating Sergio “Samurai” Wielzen of the Netherlands.

In November 2014, Tonna won his first professional world title. He became the International Sports Kickboxing Association (ISKA) K1 Featherweight World Champion by defeating David “Sanchai” Aung of New Zealand at “The Return of Bangin’ Ben Edwards” at the Hellenic Club in Canberra.

Aside from the Muay Thai bout between Tonna and Petchdam, there will be two other striking-only matches on the ONE Super Series at “ONE: Pursuit of Power.” In the seventh bout of the evening, Sergej Maslobojev of Lithuania and Florent Kaouachi of France will compete in a kickboxing match in the middleweight division.

The 10th bout and main event of the evening will be between “Smokin” Jo Nattawut of Thailand and Yohann Fairtex Drai of France. It will be a Muay Thai contest in the featherweight division.

“ONE: Pursuit of Power” will be ONE Championship’s second event in Malaysia in 2018. Titled “ONE: Visions of Victory,” the first one took place on March 9, 2018 at the Axiata Arena where Tonna’s fellow Australian Reece “Lightning” McLaren defeated his Malaysian opponent Gianni Subba.
