Fighting out of Sydney, Australia, Filipino-Australian mixed martial artist Reece “Lightning” McLaren, 26, is set to compete in the ONE Championship cage for the seventh time.  On July 7, 2018, he will face a promotional debutante in the co-main event of “ONE: Battle for the Heavens” at the Guangzhou Tianhe Gymnasium in Guangzhou, China.

“ONE: Battle for the Heavens” marks the ONE Championship debut of Tatsumitsu “The Sweeper” Wada, 29, of Japan. He and McLaren will compete in the flyweight division.

A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, McLaren had claimed the Eternal MMA and XFL Bantamweight Championships before joining ONE Championship. In his promotional debut on December 11, 2015 at “ONE: Spirit of Champions,” he scored a stunning upset by submitting his Filipino-American opponent Mark “Mugen” Striegl, 30, for a hugely impressive win.

McLaren would continue that trend of success against Muin “Tajik” Gafurov, 22, of Tajikistan and earn a shot at the ONE Bantamweight World Championship against dominant titleholder Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 38, of Brazil. The Filipino-Australian challenger gave the Brazilian champion an incredibly tough test but narrowly missed out on gold via split decision.

After failing to capture the ONE Bantamweight World Championship, McLaren lost to Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 30, of the Philippines in the bantamweight division. Following the two consecutive losses, McLaren moved to the flyweight division and defeated two opponents consecutively.

On November 10, 2017, McLaren submitted Anatpong “Mak Mak” Bunrad, 32, of Thailand via brabo choke at “ONE: Legends of the World” in the Philippines. In McLaren’s most recent bout, which took place in Malaysia on March 9, 2018 at “ONE: Visions of Victory,” he submitted his Malaysian opponent Gianni Subba, 25, via arm-triangle choke.

Currently, McLaren holds a professional MMA record of 11 wins and 5 losses. Get to know more about the Filipino-Australian MMA fighter here:
