On July 13, 2018, the Axiana Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia will once again play host to a ONE Championship event headlined by hometown hero Agilan “Alligator” Thani, 22. The Malaysian MMA star will face Zebaztian “The Bandit” Kadestam, 27, of Sweden in the main event of “ONE: Pursuit of Power.”

Thani won eight of his nine ONE Championship bouts. Seven of the eight victories happened in his homeland Malaysia and he is set to earn his eighth one as he and Kadestam competes in the welterweight division.

Both Thani and Kadestam are former ONE Welterweight World Title Challengers who were not able to dethrone ONE Welterweight World Champion Ben “Funky” 33, Askren of the United States. It was Askren who ended the winning streak of Thani, who used to be an undefeated fighter.

Undefeated as an amateur, Thani captured a Malaysian national championship before turning professional. From 2015 to 2017, he won six bouts in a row on the global stage of ONE Championship, which earned him a title shot.

The Kuala Lumpur native is one of the most remarkable athletes Malaysia has ever produced. He is training out of Monarchy MMA in Kuala Lumpur under well-respected Belgian BJJ coach Samir Mrabet and at the world-famous Team Quest in the United States. Currently, Thani holds a professional mixed martial arts record of 9 wins and 1 loss.

With Thani and Kadestam in the main event, “ONE: Pursuit of Power” will be co-headlined by “Smokin” Jo Nattawut, 28, of Thailand and Yohann Fairtex Drai, 26, of France. Nattawut and Drai will compete in a Muay Thai contest in the featherweight division on the ONE Super Series card.

“ONE: Pursuit of Power” is the second ONE Championship event to take place in Malaysia in 2018. ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong stated, “We have an amazing event planned for fans in Kuala Lumpur as our ONE Championship athletes get ready to electrify the stadium with dazzling performances.”

The first ONE Championship event to take place in Malaysia in 2018 was “ONE: Visions of Victory,” where Thani earned his most recent win. Here is a recap:
