Fighting out of Miami, Florida, Emilio “The Honey Badger” Urrutia, 31, won two out of his three fights in ONE Championship. After losing in his most recent bout, the American mixed martial artist is looking to redeem himself as he fights in the promotion for the fourth time.
Urrutia’s fourth ONE Championship bout is scheduled at “ONE: Pursuit of Power” on July 13, 2018 at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He will compete in the featherweight division against “The Underdog” Li Kai Wen, 22, of Tianjin, China.
It was in Miami where Urrutia earned his purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. After embarking on a successful amateur martial arts career, he decided to travel to Thailand in 2013 only to prepare for his professional debut but ended up falling in love with Asia and making the move permanent.
In just four years, the Miami native competed in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines. A former Singapore Fighting Championship Bantamweight Champion, he currently trains and teaches at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, Thailand.
After three ONE Championship bouts, Urrutia now holds a professional MMA record of 11 wins and 5 losses. He aims to improve this by defeating Li at “ONE: Pursuit of Power.”
There are two American contenders on the “ONE: Pursuit of Power” card. Aside from Urrutia, ONE Championship debutante Tyler McGuire, 32, of Spokane, Washington will face Luis “Sapo” Santos, 38, of Para, Brazil in the welterweight division.
Headlining “ONE: Pursuit of Power” are Agilan “Alligator” Thani, 22, and Zebaztian “The Bandit” Kadestam, 27, of Sweden, who will compete in the welterweight division. In the co-main event of the evening, ONE Super Series athletes “Smokin” Jo Nattawut, 28, of Thailand and Yohann Fairtex Drai, 26, of France will battle it out in a Muay Thai contest in the featherweight division
The last time Urrutia won in the cage was on January 26, 2018 at “ONE: Global Superheroes.” Watch the bout here:
