Chinese mixed martial artist Xie Chao won all of his three previous bouts in ONE Championship. On July 13, 2018, he will compete in the promotion for the fourth time, competing in a foreign land against a hometown hero.

Xie will compete in the featherweight division at “ONE: Pursuit of Power,” which will take place at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He will face Keanu Subba, 24, a Kuala Lumpur native.

“ONE: Pursuit of Power” will be ONE Championship’s second event in Malaysia in 2018. The featherweight bout between Xie and Subba will be the fifth bout of the evening.

“ONE Championship returns to the Axiata Arena this 13 July for another blockbuster evening of world-class martial arts action,” ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong stated. “We have an amazing event planned for fans in Kuala Lumpur, as our ONE Championship athletes get ready to electrify the stadium with dazzling performances.”

“In the main event, Malaysia’s very own Agilan ‘Alligator’ Thani takes on Zebaztian ‘The Bandit’ Kadestam in a welterweight contest,” Sityodtong also announced. “Also, Jo Nattawut will face Yohann Fairtex Drai in a ONE Super Series Muay Thai contest.”

A top Chinese featherweight, Xie is originally from Qingzhou, in the Shandong province north of Shanghai. At the age of 20, he started training in Jeet Kune Do, a famed martial arts discipline developed and founded by the legendary Bruce Lee, and began preparing to compete in MMA four years later.

In Xie’s professional MMA bout, he showcased his burgeoning grappling skills and won via first-round armbar. The Shandong native made sure to leave a lasting impression in his ONE Championship debut, which was at “ONE Championship: Shanghai,” by submitting his Malaysian opponent Marc Marcellinus via kimura armlock in just 90 seconds.

In Xie’s second and third ONE Championship bouts, he both knocked out Kelvin “Ice Man” Ong, 30, of Malaysia and Meas Meul, 28, of Cambodia, respectively.

ONE Championship’s first event in Malaysia in 2018 was “ONE: Visions of Victory.” Here is a recap of the event:
