Fighting out of San Jose, Costa Rica, Ariel “Tarzan” Sexton, 36, has been competing in ONE Championship since 2014. On July 13, 2018, the Costa Rican mixed martial artist will compete in the promotion for the sixth time.
A lightweight bout between Sexton and ONE Championship debutante Kota “Genjin” Shimoishi, 31, of Osaka, Japan has been booked for “ONE: Pursuit of Power,” which will take place at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It will be the fourth event of the evening.
Sexton earned his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under the famed Renzo Gracie. He has been exhibiting his martial arts skills in ONE Championship since 2014.
On June 15, 2013, Sexton knocked out Peter Davis, 36, of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the Malaysian Invasion Mixed Martial Arts (MIMMA) Season 1 Finale. On March 14, 2014, the Costa Rican fighter made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: War of Nations” where he lost via unanimous decision to Kamal “Prince of Persia” Shalorus, 40, of Iran.
On December 19, 2014 at “ONE: Dynasty of Champions,” Sexton had his first ONE Championship win by submitting Anvar Alizhanov, 29, of Russia via reverse triangle keylock. On May 22, 2015 at “ONE: Warrior’s Quest,” the Costa Rican fighter submitted Eddie “The Magician” Ng, 32, of Hong Kong via rear-naked choke.
On July 2, 2016 at “ONE: Dynasty of Champions 6,” Sexton knocked out Roger “El Matador” Huerta, 35, of the United States via submission to strikes. But on February 23, 2018 at “ONE: Quest for Gold,” Ev “E.T.” Ting, 28, of New Zealand of Malaysia defeated the Costa Rican fighter via split decision.
Currently, Sexton holds a professional MMA record of 11 wins and 4 losses. He aims to improve this at “ONE: Pursuit of Power” by outperforming Shimoishi.
