Fighting out of Belem, Para, Brazil, Luis “Sapo” Santos, 38, had his sixth ONE Championship bout at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. For his seventh bout in the promotion, the Brazilian mixed martial artist is returning to the same venue.

A welterweight bout between Santos and ONE Championship debutante Tyler McGuire, 32, of Spokane, Washington has been booked for “ONE: Pursuit of Power,” which will take place at the Axiata Arena on July 13, 2018. It will be the eighth bout of the evening.

The last time Santos competed at the Axiata Arena, which was at “ONE: Visions of Victory” on March 9, 2018, he defeated Kiamrian Abbasov, 24, of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan via unanimous decision. It was the Kyrgyzstani contender’s first bout in ONE Championship.

Now a veteran of over 70 professional bouts, Santos made his MMA debut in 2000, entering an eight-man open weight tournament. Some of the athletes weighed in at over 100kg, but the Brazilian fighter still triumphed as he stopped all three of his opponents in the opening round to claim the first title of his incredible career.

With the ability to finish opponents in a myriad of ways, Santos is one of the top contenders in ONE Championship’s welterweight division. The last time he lost in the cage was on May 26, 2017 at “ONE: Dynasty of Heroes” where Zebaztian “The Bandit” Kadestam, 27, of Sweden knocked him out via knees.

Headlining “ONE: Pursuit of Power” are Kadestam and Agilan “Alligator” Thani, 22, who will compete in the welterweight division. In the co-main event of the evening, ONE Super Series athletes “Smokin” Jo Nattawut, 28, of Thailand and Yohann Fairtex Drai, 26, of France will battle it out in a Muay Thai contest in the featherweight division.

The first ONE Championship event to take place in Malaysia in 2018 was “ONE: Visions of Victory.” Here is a recap:
