Fighting out of China, Zhao Zhi Kang, 22, has just earned his second victory in ONE Championship. On July 7, 2018, he defeated a fellow Chinese mixed martial artist at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens,” which took place at the Guangzhou Tianhe Gymnasium in Guangzhou, China.
“ONE: Battle for the Heavens” featured seven MMA matches and three striking-only bouts under ONE Super Series. In the fifth bout of the evening, Zhao battled it out with Ma Xu Dong.
Zhao is a Chinese sanda champion while Ma is a professional kickboxer. The two competed at a catch weight of 68kg at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens.”
Referee Yuji Shimada put a stop to the bout between Zhao and Ma in the third round. The former submitted the latter via guillotine choke.
After beating Ma at “ONE: Battle for the Heavens,” Zhao improved his professional MMA record to 10 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Ma’s record downgraded to 1 win and 1 loss.
“ONE: Battle for the Heavens” marked Ma’s ONE Championship debut. He was the third opponent Zhao encountered in the promotion.
In the co-main event of the evening, Reece “Lightning” McLaren, 26, of Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia competed against Tatsumitsu “The Sweeper” Wada, 29, of Kofu, Yamanashi, Japan in the flyweight division.
In the main event, Yodcherry Sityodtong, 19, of Thailand and Kai Ting “Killer Bee” Chuang, 23, of Taiwan competed for the inaugural ONE Super Series Kickboxing Atomweight World Championship.
