Agilan “Alligator” Thani, 22, can be the first ever champion of the largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), to emerge from Malaysia. Behind him are the Malaysian mixed martial arts fans in his bid for the ONE Welterweight World Championship after his failed first attempt.
“My experience in the ONE Championship welterweight division has prepared me for a run at the ONE Welterweight World Championship,” Thani stated. “I believe I am in a great position in my career to pursue the title, and I’m willing to face and defeat anyone who stands in my way.”
To earn the title shot again, Thani has to win at “ONE: Pursuit of Power” on July 13, 2018 at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In the main event, he will take on Zebaztian “The Bandit” Kadestam, 27, of Sweden in the welterweight division.
“The division is for the taking, and I’m working very hard to reach my goal of capturing the title,” Thani said. “It’s going to be a wild night at the Axiata Arena for sure. See you all there.”
Both Thani and Kadestam have faced ONE Welterweight World Champion Ben “Funky” Askren, 33, of the United States. However, the American champ has yet to face an opponent who will destroy his undefeated record.
Before the “ONE: Pursuit of Power” fight night at the Axiata Arena, Thani and other Malaysian MMA fighters exhibited their skills in front of the media. On July 8, 2018, he and his fellow ONE Championship athletes Peter Davis, 36, Gianni Subba, 25, and Keanu Subba, 23, were featured in a media open workout hosted by former ONE Championship superstar Ann “Athena” Osman, 32, at Concourse of Lot 10 in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.
