Trestle Tan to solely represent Philippines at ‘ONE: Pursuit of Power’

The Philippines has one representative at “ONE: Pursuit of Power,” which will take place at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 13, 2018. Fighting out of Manila, Trestle “Jun Minion” Tan, 32, was added on the card just days before the fight night.

A featherweight bout between Eric “The Natural” Kelly, 35, of Baguio City, Philippines and Kazuki Tokudome, 31, of Japan was originally booked for “ONE: Pursuit of Power.” However, the bout was cancelled reportedly due to a ruling of the Philippines’ Games and Amusement Board that has something to do with the Baguio City native’s five-bout losing streak.

“ONE: Pursuit of Power” is the second ONE Championship event to take place in Malaysia in 2018. In the first bout of the evening, Tan will face “Crazy Dog” Park Dae Sung, 25, of South Korea in a catch weight of 80kg.

This marks Tan’s return to the cage after going on hiatus for almost two years. The Filipino mixed martial artist’s most recent bout also took place in Kuala Lumpur.

On September 2, 2016, Tan faced Agilan “The Alligator” Thani, 22, of Malaysia in the welterweight division at “ONE: Unbreakable Warriors” at the Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur. The Filipino fighter lost to his Malaysian opponent via rear-naked choke submission.

Tan holds a professional MMA record of 4 wins, 6 losses and 1 No Contest, which he aims to improve at “ONE: Pursuit of Power.” Park will be the fourth opponent to be encountered by the Filipino fighter in the ONE Championship cage.

On the other hand, Park has 7 wins, 2 losses and 1 No Contest. “ONE: Pursuit of Power” will mark his first official ONE Championship bout although he competed at the promotion’s “ONE Warrior Series” Season 1 on March 31, 2018 in Singapore.

At “ONE Warrior Series” Season 1, Park encountered Kimihiro Eto, 29, of Japan in the main event. In their lightweight bout, the Korean contender knocked out his Japanese opponent in the first round.

Including the catchweight bout between Tan and Park, “ONE: Pursuit of Power” will feature 11 bouts. The main event is a welterweight bout between Thani and Zebaztian “The Bandit” Kadestam, 27, of Sweden while the co-main event is a ONE Super Series Muay Thai featherweight contest between “Smokin” Jo Nattawut, 28, of Thailand and Yohann Fairtex Drai, 26, of France.

Thani’s most recent bout, which was at “ONE: Visions of Victory,” also took place at the Axiata Arena. Here is a recap of the event:
