Thai boxing superstar Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, 31, will be one of the two contenders in the inaugural boxing bout in ONE Championship. He is the reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Flyweight Champion and The Ring Super Flyweight World Champion.
Sor Rungvisai and his yet-to-be-announced opponent will headline “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes,” which will take place at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on October 6, 2018. On July 9, 2018, ONE Championship held a press conference for the event at the W Hotel in country’s capital city.
“I am happy and honored to take part in this historical ONE Championship’s event,” Sor Rungvisai said during the event. “I was at ONE Championship’s event in Bangkok earlier this year, and it blew my mind with its world class production, entertainment, and fights. I would also like to thank everyone who made this possible.”
“With ONE Championship opening its doors for athletes like me to showcase our talent on the global stage, it means a lot,” the Thai boxer added. “This is a new challenge, and I love challenges. I am looking forward to defend my WBC World title belt in ONE Championship.”
During the press conference, ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced its partnership with Nakornloung Promotion. The organization and the promotion will co-promote Srisaket’s “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes” bout.
Nakornloung Promotion promoter Thainchai Pisitwuttinan was present during the press conference. He is the promoter of Sor Rungvisai, who won the prestigious WBC Super Flyweight World Championship on two occasions.
Ranked number six on the pound-for-pound best boxers list of The Ring Magazine, Sor Rungvisai is one of Thailand’s most celebrated pugilists in history. He holds a professional record of 45 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw with 40 knockouts.
After regaining the WBC Super Flyweight World Championship in March 2017 and then successfully defending it twice in the United States, Sor Rungvisai will defend his WBC World title in ONE Championship’s historical event in Thailand. His fellow Thai contenders are “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes” are Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex, 33, Nong-O Gaiyanghadao, 32, Shannon “OneShin” Wiratchai, 29, and Rika “Tiny Doll” Ishige, 29, and Petchmorrakot Wor. Sangprapai, 24.
