On July 13, 2018, Petchdam Kaiyanghadao of Bangkok, Thailand fought Josh “Timebomb” Tonna of Canberra, Australia at “ONE: Pursuit of Power.” It was both their first time to compete in ONE Championship’s striking-only league ONE Super Series.
Taking place at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, “ONE: Pursuit of Power” featured 11 bouts. Out of the 11 matches on the card, eight were mixed martial arts bouts while three were striking-only contests.
The second bout at “ONE: Pursuit of Power” was a Muay Thai contest between Petchdam and Tonna in the flyweight division. Currently reigning as the ONE Super Series Muay Thai Flyweight World Champion is Sam-A Gaiyanghadao of Thailand and Singapore.
The referee put a stop to the contest after 1 minute and 11 seconds in the second round. Petchdam knocked out his Australian opponent via knee to the liver.
The co-main event of the evening was a ONE Super Series Muay Thai featherweight contest between “Smokin” Jo Nattawut of Thailand and Yohann Fairtex Drai of France. The Thai contender knocked out his French opponent in the first round.
ONE Championship has yet to have an event solely headlined by a ONE Super Series bout. When Sam-A became the ONE Super Series Muay Thai Flyweight World Champion at “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams” on May 18, 2018 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore, it was also the co-main event of the evening.
Before joining ONE Championship, Petchdam competed against Markus Kalberg of Norway in a Muay Thai contest at Topking World Series’s “MONO29 Topking WorldSeries 2018 Ayothaya – A Fight to Honor Nai Kanom Tom” in Ayutthaya Province, Thailand on March 17, 2018. The Thai martial artist won via majority decision.
