Fighting out of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Keanu Subba, 24, has just earned his sixth victory as a professional mixed martial artist in front of his countrymen. It also is his fifth win in ONE Championship.
After going on hiatus for almost a year, Subba returned to the ONE Championship cage on July 13, 2018. He competed in a featherweight bout against Xie Chao of Shandong, China at “ONE: Pursuit of Power,” which took place at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur.
“ONE: Pursuit of Power” feature 11 bouts. The featherweight bout between Subba and Xie will be the sixth bout of the evening.
“ONE: Pursuit of Power” marked Subba’s seventh ONE Championship bout. For Xie, was his fourth outing in the promotion.
Referee Olivier Coste put a stop to the featherweight bout between Subba and Xie at 3:31 of Round 1. The Malaysian contender submitted his Chinese opponent via arm bar.
It was Xie’s first loss in ONE Championship. In his first, second and third outings in the promotion, he defeated Marc Marcellinus of Malaysia, out Kelvin “Ice Man” Ong, 30, of Malaysia and Meas Meul, 28, of Cambodia, respectively.
After losing to Subba, Xie now holds a professional MMA record of 9 wins and 4 losses. On the other hand, Subba improved his record to 6 wins and 3 losses.
The main event of “ONE: Pursuit of Power” was a welterweight bout between Thani and Zebaztian “The Bandit” Kadestam, 27, of Sweden. The Swedish contender knocked out the hometown hero in the third round.
The co-main event was a ONE Super Series Muay Thai featherweight contest between “Smokin” Jo Nattawut, 28, of Thailand and Yohann Fairtex Drai, 26, of France. The Thai contender knocked out his French opponent in the first round.
