Eduard Folayang vs Khabib Nurmagomedov’s compatriot Aziz Pahrudinov in Manila

Among the regions in the world that are known for mixed martial artists are Baguio City, Philippines and Dagestan, Russia. On July 27, 2018, two fighters representing these places will battle it out at the ONE Championship event “ONE: Reign of Kings.”

Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 34, is one of the four hometown heroes on the card of “ONE: Reign of Kings,” which will take place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. He is fighting out of Baguio City, which is home to the famed Team Lakay.

At “ONE: Reign of Kings,” Folayang will compete in the lightweight division against the undefeated Russian fighter Aziz Pahrudinov, 29. The latter is from Dagestan, which is also home to reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, 19, who holds a professional MMA record of 26 wins and 0 loss.

The lightweight division is one of the most exciting weight classes in MMA. Among the widely reported MMA events in 2017 were the dethronement of Conor “The Notorious” McGregor, 30, of Dublin, Ireland as the UFC Lightweight Champion due to inactivity and the crowning of Nurmagomedov as the new champion.

On May 18, 2018, Nurmagomedov and Pahrudinov’s fellow Dagestani MMA fighter Kharun “Predator” Atlangeriev, 25, made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams.” Previously unbeaten, Atlangeriev suffered his first loss in the hands of Folayang.

After three rounds at “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams,” Folayang defeated Atlangeriev via unanimous decision. At “ONE: Reign of Kings,” the Team Lakay fighter will face yet another undefeated Dagestani MMA fighter.

Like Atlangeriev, Pahrudinov will make his ONE Championship debut as an undefeated fighter. While Folayang currently has 19 wins and 6 losses, Pahrudinov has 20 wins, 0 loss and 1 draw.

A former ONE Lightweight World Champion, Folayang is aiming for yet another redemptive win at the expense of an undefeated Dagestani opponent. The Team Lakay fighter stated, “I have to beat whoever is in front of me. That is the priority. Right now, it’s Pahrudinov.”

Meanwhile, here is a recap of “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams” where Atlangeriev lost to Folayang:
