Team Lakay vs Tiger Muay Thai: Joshua Pacio, Pongsiri Mitsatit’s battle all set for ‘ONE: Reign of Kings’

A bout between ONE Championship strawweights Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 20, and Pongsiri “The Smiling Assassin” Mitsatit, 22, was originally scheduled on January 26, 2018. They were supposed to compete at “ONE: Global Superheroes” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

It should have been a battle between a Team Lakay warrior and a Tiger Muay Thai pride. However, the latter was injured and had to withdraw from the bout.

Based in Baguio City, Philippines, Team Lakay was founded by its head coach Mark Sangiao. The head mixed martial arts coach at Tiger Muay Thai, which is based in Phuket, Thailand, is George Hickman.

Representing Team Lakay, Pacio is teammates with several formidable strikers. Among them are former ONE Featherweight World Champion Honorio “The Rock” Banario, 28, former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 34, reigning ONE Flyweight World Champion  Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 29, and ONE Interim Bantamweight World Championship contender Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 30.

While Team Lakay is the leading MMA team in the Philippines, Tiger Muay Thai prides itself as the top training camp for MMA, Muay Thai and fitness in Thailand. Training out of Tiger Muay Thai, Mitsatit is teammates with several ONE Championship athletes including Emilio “The Honey Badger” Urrutia, 31, of the United States and Shannon “OneShin” Wiratchai, 29, of Thailand.

Pacio and Mitsatit will finally face each other inside the ONE Championship cage months after their cancelled bout. A strawweight bout between the two has been booked for “ONE: Reign of Kings,” which will take place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on July 27, 2018.

Mitsatit is a highly decorated kickboxer. As a professional MMA fighter, he holds a perfect record of 9 wins and 0 loss.

On the other hand, Pacio holds a professional MMA record of 11 wins and 2 losses. Riding high on a two-bout winning streak, he is looking to build upon his momentum and return to world title contention.

Also on the “ONE: Reign of Kings” card are Belingon, Wiratchai and Folayang. Their respective opponents are Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 29, of Australia and Vietnam, Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki, 35, of Japan and Aziz Pahrudinov, 20, of Russia.
