Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 22, of Baguio City, Philippines was an undefeated fighter from 2013 to 2016. Now with a professional mixed martial arts record of 11 wins and 2 losses, he is set to face an undefeated fighter at “ONE: Reign of Kings.”
Taking place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines, “ONE: Reign of Kings” marks Pacio’s seventh bout in ONE Championship. He will compete in the strawweight division against Pongsiri “The Smiling Assassin” Mitsatit, 22, of Chiang Mai, Thailand.
“He is obviously a very good striker given his Muay Thai background, but what makes him dangerous is that he is very well-rounded,” Pacio said of Mitsatit. “His wrestling and grappling is also on a high level. We match up quite well.”
A victory for Pacio could certainly bring him an inch closer to a rematch he craves with reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito, 34, of Japan, the first fighter to defeat the Team Lakay fighter. While Pacio is laser-focused on bringing home the victory at “ONE: Reign of Kings,” he is not in a hurry to compete for the championship again.
“It’s up to ONE Championship when I will fight for the title again,” Pacio said. “But I will happily take my time developing my skills correctly.”
Whether or not Pacio is close to getting his wish for another crack at gold, he is at the very least eager to prove that he belongs in the discussion. He said, “For me, there is nothing better than martial arts.”
“Every discipline has its own beauty, whether it’s wushu, Muay Thai or Brazilian jiu-jitsu,” Pacio explained. “I embrace all styles. I am a student of all arts.”
“The winner of this bout will go to who can mix it up better,” the Team Lakay fighter added. “I’m excited to test my skills against a worthy opponent in Pongsiri Mitsatit.”
