For the first time, ONE Championship will include boxing in its striking-only league ONE Super Series. The inaugural boxing match will be between Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, 31, of Thailand and Iran “Magnifico” Diaz of Mexico.
Rungvisai will defend his World Boxing Council Super Flyweight World Champion for the third time. His boxing bout against Diaz will be the main event of “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes,” which will take place at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on October 6, 2018.
Recently, ONE Championship announced its partnership with Nakornloung Promotion (NKL) to co-promote the next title defense of Rungvisai. The Thai boxing champ stated, “I am excited to showcase my skills at home in Bangkok.”
“As a world champion boxer, this is a rare opportunity for me to be able to defend my world title in front of my people,” Rungvisai added. “I thank ONE Championship for the honor, and I will do my best to retain my title.”
Rungvisai sets his sights on winning the scheduled 12-round championship clash with Diaz. The reigning WBC Super Flyweight World Champion shared, “I am very deep in preparations right now for one of the most significant bouts of my career.”
“The possibilities with ONE Championship and NKL are endless,” Rungvisai continued. “I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my career.”
The inaugural boxing bout in ONE Championship was announced during a press conference at the W Hotel in Bangkok on July 9, 2018. It was attended by Rungvisai, ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong and NKL promoter Thainchai Pisitwuttinan.
Rungvisai holds a professional boxing record of 46 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw while Diaz has 14 wins, 2 losses and 3 losses. The Mexican boxer is currently ranked number 13 by the WBC.
