A known finisher with eight victories via knockout, Amir Khan, 23, of Singapore believes that his striking is far more superior than that of his “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” opponent Honorio “The Rock” Banario, 28, of the Philippines. Khan and Banario represent Evolve MMA and Team Lakay, respectively.
“I feel my advantage would be my striking range,” the Evolve MMA product stated. “I am confident that I will be able to outstrike him.”
A former ONE Featherweight World Champion, Banario has five knockout victories but he has more submission wins to his credit. But Khan feels that he poses a great once the bout goes to the grappling wheelhouse.
“I definitely will have a huge advantage on the ground as well,” Khan confidently expressed. “This will let me dictate the fight and do it on my terms.”
Khan appears to be brimming with confidence with regard to his skill set. But the Singaporean standout knows better as he is not taking a former world champion like Banario lightly.
“Stylistically, I wouldn’t say [Banario] is the toughest I will face,” Khan declared. “But I definitely will not be underestimating him or taking our bout lightly.”
Should Khan take care of business against a high-caliber competitor such as Banario, it would definitely raise the Singaporean star’s stock, giving him back-to-back victories on the ONE Championship stage. To deserve a shot at gold, the Evolve MMA fighter feels that his win over Banario must be of the spectacular kind.
What Khan is looking for at “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” is nothing less than a second-round stoppage. In his most recent bout, he knocked out Sung Jong Lee, 32, of South Korea via punches in the second round.
“I feel that I will only deserve the title shot if I manage to finish him by the second round,” Khan declared, referring to his “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” bout against Banario. “I’m looking for a quick finish in this fight, either by striking or through my ground game.”
On September 8, 2018, Khan and Banario will co-headline “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” at the Baoshan Arena in Shanghai, China. Meanwhile, here is a clip featuring the Singaporean Evolve MMA fighter:
