Reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan, 30, of China is set to defend her belt at “ONE: Beyond the Horizon.” On September 5, 2018, she had her face-off with her challenger Samara “Marituba” Santos, 25, of Brazil at the CHAR Bar & Grill located at Level 30 of the Indigo Hotel in Shanghai, China.

“Samara Santos is a strong opponent,” Xiong stated. “She’s looking good and I know I should be prepared for a tough challenge.”

Xiong is one of the only two reigning female champions of ONE Championship. The other one is reigning ONE Womrn’s Atomweight World Champion Angela “Unstoppable” Lee, 22, of Singapore.

“Becoming the ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion was a dream come true for me,” Xiong shared. “It means a lot that the fans have been behind my career, showing their support every step of the way. The goal now is to hold this title for as long as I can and defend it with everything that I have.”

“Right now I’m ready,” the reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion added. “I feel strong and confident. When I step into the ring this Saturday night, it’s time to show the world why I’m the best there is in my division.”

Currently, Xiong holds a professional mixed martial arts record of 15 wins and 1 loss. She began her career competing in professional boxing and was inspired by her father, who imparted in her values of courage and integrity.

With a wide array of skills, Xiong bagged a gold medal at the prestigious China Open Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament in 2017. In the same year, she made her ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Warriors of the World” where she knocked out April Osenio of the Philippines.

On January 20, 2018, Xiong became the inaugural ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion by defeating Tiffany Teo of Singapore at “ONE: Kings of Courage.” On June 23, 2018, the Chinese champ successfully defended the title from Laura Balin of Argentina at “ONE: Pinnacle of Power.”

This makes “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” the second event for Xiong to defend her title. It will take place at the Baoshan Arena in Shanghai on September 8, 2018.
