Danny Kingad: For Team Lakay, training is very important

One of the factors that make Team Lakay a first-rate mixed martial arts team is its dedication to training. Recently, ONE Championship athlete Danny “The King” Kingad, 22, of Baguio City, Philippines shared an anecdote about the team.

“I have worked very hard with my brothers at Team Lakay over the past few months despite the heavy rain in Baguio,” Kingad shared. “We even had no electricity in the gym for a short period because the building’s transformer blew out, but we improvised and we made adjustments.”

“This is what I love about our team,” Kingad said of Team Lakay. “We do whatever it takes to work hard. Training is very important for us.”

In Kingad’s most recent bout, which was at “ONE: Pinnacle of Power” on June 23, 2018, he defeated “The Southern Eagle” Ma Hao Bin, 24, of China via unanimous decision. Although the Filipino fighter was not able to finish his Chinese opponent at “ONE: Pinnacle of Power,” the Team Lakay fighter was happy with his performance.

“In my next fight, I know it’s going to be even tougher but I am well-prepared,” Kingad said. On September 22, 2018, the Team Lakay fighter will return to the cage and face Yuya “Little Piranha” Wakamatsu, 23, of Kagoshima, Japan at “ONE: Conquest of Heroes” at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Wakamatsu will make his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Conquest of Heroes.” It will be the ninth bout of the evening.

“I definitely don’t like to predict what will happen because this is mixed martial arts,” Kingad commented. “Anything can happen in the ring or the cage. We just have to be prepared for all situations.”

On November 10, 2017, Kingad failed to dethrone former ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes, 29, of Brazil at “ONE: Legends of the World,” which was the first time the Team Lakay fighter lost in the cage. Months later, the Baguio City native became a first-time father.

“I am definitely more serious now when it comes to my training, especially that I am now a father,” Kingad said. “I think that has been the most evident in my last bout against Ma Hao Bin. I showed that I can take on a very tough opponent and get the victory.”
