For the first time, reigning World Boxing Council Super Flyweight World Champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, 31, of Thailand is defending his belt in his home country. His challenger will be Iran “MagnifiKO” Diaz, 28, of Mexico.
Srisaket and Diaz will headline “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes” at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on October 6, 2018. The main event will be the first ever boxing bout of ONE Championship.
“He’s a superhero in Thailand,” Diaz said of Srisaket. “But I’m going to crash this party and take the title here on his home soil.”
According to Diaz, he has never trained harder for any fight and “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes” marks the most important fight of his career. He said, “I am proud to be in the best shape of my life and I am 100 percent ready to step on the champion’s home soil and score the upset.”
“I know that he is a very powerful and aggressive puncher,” Diaz said of Srisaket. “But I am confident in the strategy me and my team have come up with.”
Including boxing as part of the ONE Super Series, specifically the super flyweight division, has created a lot of international media attention for the smaller guys who are often overshadowed by the heavier weights. Opportunities like these with ONE Championship are giving all boxers something more to work towards.
“Get ready for the biggest upset of the yea,” Diaz declared. “I’m heading into this fight fully expecting to walk away with the belt around my waist as the new champion. I know it’s not going to be easy but I will do whatever it takes to emerge with the win.”
“It’s going to be an amazing fight this Saturday night,” the Mexican boxer added. “I’m coming into hostile territory but I’m packing the firepower. Let’s get ready to rumble.”
On October 1, 2018, Srisaket and Diaz had their official face-off in Bangkok, which was attended by ONE Championship Vice President for Public Relations and Communications Loren Mack. Here is a clip from the event:
