Fighting out of Albay, Philippines, Ramon “The Bicolano” Gonzales, 31, has earned his second victory in ONE Championship. He was one of the two Filipino athletes to compete at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on October 6, 2018 at “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes,” which featured eight ONE Super Series striking contests and six mixed martial arts matches.
At “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes,” Gonzales faced Dodi “The Maung” Mardian, 34, of Indonesia. In the first bout of the evening, the two competed in an MMA match in the flyweight division.
Referee Yuji Shimada put a stop to the MMA flyweight between Gonzales and Mardian at 3:33 in the first round. The Filipino contender submitted his Indonesian opponent via rear-naked choke.
Gonzales made his professional MMA debut on August 23, 2009 at “URCC: Davao Digmaan 2009.” He knocked out Jemerey Quinonero of Davao, Philippines via punches at 0:43 in the first round.
After the successful professional MMA debut, Gonzales joined ONE Championship. It was not a good start for him as he faced two consecutive losses in the promotion.
On March 13, 2015, Gonzales was knocked out by Chan Rothana of Cambodia via punches and elbows at 4:48 in the first round at “ONE: Age of Champions.” On March 11, 2017, the Filipino fighter was knocked out by Yodsanan Sityodtong of Thailand via punches at 3:21 in the second round at “ONE: Warrior Kingdom.”
It was on September 16, 2017 when Gonzales finally had his second professional MMA win, which was his first victory in ONE Championship. He submitted Deligerihu “The Little Squirrel” Liu of China via arm-triangle at 1:52 in the second round at “ONE: Total Victory.”
By defeating Mardian at “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes,” Gonzales improved his professional MMA record to 3 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, Mardian now has 0 win and 3 losses.
