Brazil vs Thailand: Alex Silva, Pongsiri Mitsatit to fight at ‘ONE: Heart of the Lion’ in Singapore

*UPDATE: This bout has been cancelled.

Brazil and Thailand will be represented at “ONE: Heart of the Lion,” a ONE Championship event taking place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on November 9, 2018. In the seventh bout of the evening, Alex “Little Rock” Silva, 36, of Sao Paulo, Brazil will face Pongsiri “The Smiling Assassin” Mitsatit, 22, of Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Silva is a third-degree black belt and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion feared for his relentless pursuit of submission finishes. He is a technical grappling specialist with a penchant for securing highlight-reel submissions.

With steadily increasing confidence, Silva is a winner of six of his last seven bouts, the majority of which have ended with submissions. He defeated Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito, 36, of Chiba, Japan on December 9, 2017 to capture the ONE Strawweight World Championship but surrendered the title in a rematch months later.

On the other hand, Mitsatit lost to Joshua “The Passion” Pacio of Baguio City, Philippines on July 27, 2018. On September 22, 2018, the latter became the new ONE Strawweight World Championship by dethroning Naito in a rematch.

Raised in humble surroundings, Mitsatit decided to pick up Muay Thai to learn how to protect himself after repeated encounters with childhood bullying. He soon ran up a Muay Thai record of 72 wins and 17 losses and became a Chiang Mai Muay Thai Champion.

In 2014, Mitsatit made his professional mixed martial arts debut and has since rapidly emerged as one of Thailand’s most exciting talents. Currently training at the prestigious Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, the Chiang Mai native holds a professional MMA record of 9 wins and 1 loss.

In the main event of “ONE: Heart of the Lion,” reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan, 30, of China will defend her title against ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion Angela “Unstoppable” Lee, 20, of Singapore. This the first time two female reigning world champions are fighting each other in ONE Championship.

In the co-main event, reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 38, of Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil will defend his title against ONE Interim Bantamweight World Champion Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 30, of Kiangan, Ifugao, Philippines. The bantamweight title unification bout will be a rematch between the two.
