[PHOTOS] Sweden vs USA: Zebaztian Kadestam, Tyler McGuire fight at ‘ONE: Warrior’s Dream’ in Indonesia

Undefeated mixed martial artist Ben “Funky” Askren, 34, of Phoenix, Arizona, United States vacated the ONE Welterweight World Championship title on November 24, 2017. On November 17, 2018, the vacant title was contested at “ONE: Warrior’s Dream” between Zebaztian “The Bandit” Kadestam, 28, of Arsta, Uppsala, Sweden and Tyler McGuire, 32, of Spokane, Washington, United States.

Featuring three ONE Super Series striking contests and 11 MMA matches, “ONE: Warrior’s Dream” took place at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was headlined by Kadestam and McGuire.

Referee Olivier Coste put a stop to the welterweight championship bout between Kadestam and McGuire at 4:32 of the fifth round. The Swedish contender knocked out his American opponent.

Kadestam is the third MMA fighter to hold the ONE Welterweight World Championship title. He is the first fighter to defeat McGuire.

Both McGuire and Kadestam were coming out of a victory. They competed in separate bouts at “ONE: Pursuit of Power” at the Putra Indoor Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 13, 2018.

McGuire co-headlined “ONE: Pursuit of Power” with Luis “Sapo” Santos, 38, of Belem, Para, Brazil. After three five-minute rounds, the Spokane fighter defeated his Brazilian opponent via unanimous decision.

In the main event of “ONE: Pursuit of Power,” Kadestam faced  Agilan “Alligator” Thani, 23, of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Swedish fighter knocked out his Malaysian opponent via punches and elbows in the third round.

The “ONE: Pursuit of Power” victory improved Kadestam’s professional MMA record to 10 wins and 4 losses. He will compete in ONE Championship for the fourth time at “ONE: Warrior’s Dream.”

Born and raised in Stockholm, Kadestam stayed in the Philippines from 2012 to 2017. He trained out of Legacy Gym in Boracay, Malay, Aklan under the tutelage of former ONE Championship athlete Ole “Iron Fist” Laursen, 41, who is a Filipino-Danish Welterweight Muay Thai kickboxer fighting out of Ubon Ratchani, Thailand.

Before joining ONE Championship, Kadestam was a PXC Welterweight Champion. When he made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Dynasty of Heroes” on May 26, 2017 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore, he knocked out Santos via knees in the third round.

On September 2, 2017, Kadestam challenged Askren at “ONE: Championship: Shanghai” at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai, China. In the main event, the Phoenix fighter knocked out the Swedish challenger via punches in the second round.

Like Askren, McGuire is also an undefeated fighter. Defeating Santos at “ONE: Pursuit of Power” improved the Spokane fighter’s professional MMA record to 11 wins and 0 loss.

Born and raised in Iowa, McGuire is a a Staff Sergeant teaching the Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) program in the Air Force. It was his job that brought him to Spokane where he met his current coach Rick Little of Sik-Jitsu Fighting Systems.
