China and South Korea were represented at the ONE Championship event “ONE: Warrior’s Dream,” which took place on November 17, 2018 at the Stadium Istora in Jakarta, Indonesia. The fight card featured three ONE Super Series striking contests and 11 mixed martial arts matches.
In the sixth bout of the evening, Zhao Zhi Kang, 22, of Inner Mongolia, China faced Dae Hwan “Ottogi” Kim, 31, of Seoul, South Korea. They competed in an MMA match the bantamweight division.
Kim is a former KAMMA Bantamweight Champion who joined ONE Championship in 2013. With incredible striking prowess and solid grappling ability, he is one of the top contenders in the promotion’s bantamweight division.
In Kim’s first two bouts in the promotion, he posted victories over Thanh “Aladdin” Vu, 26, of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia and Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 30, of Kiangan, Ifugao, Philippines. In 2014, the South Korean fighter unsuccessfully challenged Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 38, of Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil for the ONE Bantamweight World Championship.
Zhao is a Chinese Sanda Champion from the desert region of Inner Mongolia. Driven by the competitive spirit of martial arts, he aims to achieve glory on the global stage.
Inspired by heroes such as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li, Zhao began training in martial arts at the age of 15. In 2012, the Inner Mongolia native made his professional MMA debut and went on to amass an excellent record by competing all across China, which brought him to the bright lights of ONE Championship.
After three five-minute rounds, the bantamweight bout between Zhao and Kim was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, referee Olivier Coste raised the hand of the South Korean contender, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Winning at “ONE: Warrior’s Dream” improved Kim’s professional MMA record to 14 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw. On the other hand, Zhao now has 24 wins and 5 losses.
“ONE: Warrior’s Dream” Main Events
In the co-main event of the evening, Nieky “The Natural” Holzken, 34, of Helmond, Netherlands and Cosmo “Good Boy” Alexandre, 36, of Sao Paulo, Brazil battled it out in a ONE Super Series kickboxing contest. The Dutch kickboxer knocked out his Brazilian opponent in the second round.
In the main event, Zebaztian “The Bandit” Kadestam, 28, of Arsta, Uppsala, Sweden and Tyler McGuire, 32, of Spokane, Washington, United States competed for the vacant ONE Welterweight World Championship. The Swedish contender captured the belt by knocking out his American opponent in the fourth round.
