Indonesia and Malaysia were represented at the ONE Championship event “ONE: Warrior’s Dream,” which took place on November 17, 2018 at the Stadium Istora in Jakarta, Indonesia. The fight card featured three ONE Super Series striking contests and 11 mixed martial arts matches.
In the seventh bout of the evening, Eka “Egi Rozten” Aprilianto, 30, of Jakarta faced Eddey “The Clown” Kalai, 30, of Sabah, Malaysia. They competed in an MMA match the strawweight division.
A two-time SEA Games boxing bronze medalist, Kalai comes from a long line of boxers. After several years spent on the regional boxing circuit, he became intrigued at the prospect of competing in MMA and took part in a national tournament in 2013.
Kalai lost in the tournament but he was instantly hooked so he decided to dedicate himself to training in all disciplines and adding new tools to his strong boxing base. He turned after 10 wins as an amateur with 8 stoppages.
Rozten is a former regional boxing champion. When he made his ONE Championship debut on January 20, 2018, he was knocked out via punches by his Riski “Kong” Umar, 25, of Ternate, Indonesia.
In Rozten’s most recent bout, which was on September 22, 2018, he had his rematch with Umar. The Jakarta native had his redemptive win by knocking out his opponent from Ternate via strikes.
Referee Yuji Shimada put a stop to the strawweight bout between Rozten and Kalai at 3:15 of the first round. The Indonesian fighter knocked out his Malaysian opponent.
Winning at “ONE: Warrior’s Dream” improved Rozten’s professional MMA record to 5 wins and 1 loss. On the other hand, Kalai now has 0 win and 5 losses.
“ONE: Warrior’s Dream” Main Events
In the co-main event of the evening, Nieky “The Natural” Holzken, 34, of Helmond, Netherlands and Cosmo “Good Boy” Alexandre, 36, of Sao Paulo, Brazil battled it out in a ONE Super Series kickboxing contest. The Dutch kickboxer knocked out his Brazilian opponent in the second round.
In the main event, Zebaztian “The Bandit” Kadestam, 28, of Arsta, Uppsala, Sweden and Tyler McGuire, 32, of Spokane, Washington, United States competed for the vacant ONE Welterweight World Championship. The Swedish contender captured the belt by knocking out his American opponent in the fourth round.
