Thailand and Portugal were among the 16 countries represented at “ONE: Destiny of Champions” on December 7, 2018. The fight card featured seven mixed martial arts matches and four Muay Thai contests.
ONE Championship held “ONE: Destiny of Champions” at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In the fifth bout of the evening, Panpayak “The Angel Warrior” Jitmuangnon, 22, of Bangkok, Thailand faced Rui Botelho, 24, of Lisbon, Portugal.
Representing Dinamite Team, Botelho is a World Kickboxing Association European Champion and is one of the most decorated Muay Thai practitioners from Portugal. In 2017, he won the gold medal at the European Muaythai Championships in Paris, France.
Botelho made his ONE Super Series debut at “ONE: Pinnacle of Power” at the Studio City Event Center in Macau, China on June 23, 2018, the Lisbon native was knocked out by Yukinori Ogasawara, 26, of Tokyo, Japan.
“ONE: Destiny of Champions” marked Botelho’s second bout in ONE Championship’s striking-only league. He was the only Portuguese fighter on the card.
Born in Samut Prakarn, Thailand on January 7, 1996, Panpayak is the reigning Lumpinee Stadium Featherweight Champion and is the former Lumpinee Stadium Bantamweight Champion. He previously held the Rajadamnern championship titles in the light flyweight and mini flyweight divisions.
Training out of the Jitmuangnon Gym in Bangkok, Panpayak made his ONE Super Series debut at “ONE: Destiny of Champions.” He is the first fighter to win the Sports Writers of Thailand Fighter of the Year award three consecutive times.
Including Panpayak, there were three Thai fighters on the “ONE: Destiny of Champions” card. The other two were Yodsanklai “The Hero” IWE Fairtex, 32, and Petchmorrakot Petchyindee Academy, 24.
Panpayak and Botelho competed in a Muay Thai bout in the flyweight division. Atsushi Onari served as the referee.
After three three-minute rounds, the Muay Thai flyweight contest between Panpayak and Botelho was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Onari raised the hand of the Thai contender, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Making a successful ONE Super Series debut, Panpayak improved his professional Muay Thai record to 244 wins, 40 losses and 3 draws. On the other hand, Botelho now has 17 wins, 8 losses and 2 draws.
“ONE: Destiny of Champions” Main Events
In the co-main event of the evening, Agilan “Alligator” Thani, 23, of Malaysia and Kiamrian Abbasov, 25, of Kyrgyzstan competed in an MMA match in the welterweight division. The Kyrgyzstani contender submitted his Malaysian opponent via rear-naked choke in the first round.
In the main event, Yodsanklai “The Hero” IWE Fairtex, 32, of Thailand took on Luis “Macaco” Regis, 33, of Australia in a ONE Super Series Muay Thai contest. The Thai contender knocked out is Australian opponent in the first round.
Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Greece, Indonesia, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Russia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States were also represented at “ONE: Destiny of Champions.” Check the complete results on Conan Daily.
