Australia vs Russia: Alex Gorgees, Damir Ismagulov fight at ‘UFC Fight Night 142’

Australia and Russia were two of the seven countries represented at “UFC Fight Night 142.” The Ultimate Fighting Championship held the mixed martial arts event at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, Australia on December 2, 2018.

“UFC Fight Night 142” featured 12 MMA bouts. In the first bout of the evening, Damir Ismagulov, 27, (Дамир Исмагулов) of Orenburg, Russia faced Alex “Hitman” Gorgees, 23, of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Both Ismagulov and Gorgees made their UFC debut at “UFC Fight Night 142.” Originally, Ismagulov replaced Ross “The Real Deal” Pearson, 34, of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England as the opponent of Joseph “Irish Joe” Duffy, 30, of Donegal, Ireland, who was eventually replaced by Gorgees.

Pearson pulled out of the fight due to a broken nose. Duffy withdrew citing a rib injury.

Blue Corner

Born in Australia on August 11, 1995, Gorgees is representing Australian Top Team. He is entering the cage as an undefeated fighter at “UFC Fight Night 142,” which marked his eighth bout as a professional MMA fighter.

Gorgees’s head trainer and fellow Sydney resident Suman Mokhtarian, 26, is also making his UFC debut at “UFC Fight Night 142.” Mokhtarian, who is of Iranian descent, is the younger brother of UFC fighter Ashkan “The Assassin” Mokhtarian, 33.

Ismagulov was born in Kazakhstan on February 3, 1991. He has been competing professionally since 2014 and is training in Orenbug.

Before joining the UFC, Islamagulov competed mostly in M-1 Global. “UFC Fight Night 142” marked the 19th professional MMA bout of the Kazakh fighter.

Fight Result

Ismagulov and Gorgees competed in the lightweight division at “UFC Fight Night 142.” After three five-minute rounds, the contest was left in the hands of the judges.

In the end, the referee raised the hand of Ismagulov, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision. This made the Kazakh contender the first fighter to defeat Gorgees, who now has 7 wins and 1 loss.

Winning at “UFC Fight Night 142” improved Ismagulov’s professional MMA record to 17 wins and 2 losses. He is now riding a 12-bout winning streak.

“UFC Fight Night 142” Main Event

In the main event, Junior “Cigano” dos Santos, 34, of Cacador, Santa Catarina, Brazil will face Tai “Bam Bam” Tuivasa, 25, of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in the heavyweight division.
