Japan vs USA: Mizuto Hirota, Christos Giagos fight at ‘UFC Fight Night 142’ in Australia

Japan and the United States were two of the seven countries represented at “UFC Fight Night 142.” The Ultimate Fighting Championship held the mixed martial arts event at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, Australia on December 2, 2018.

“UFC Fight Night 142” featured 12 MMA bouts. In the second bout of the evening, Mizuto “Pugnus” Hirota (廣田瑞人), 37, of Isahaya, Nagasaki, Japan will face Christos “The Spartan” Giagos, 28, of Hawthorne, California, United States.

Giagos was born in Azusa, California on January 23, 1990 and is of Greek descent. He started his MMA training in 2009 and made his professional MMA debut in 2010.

Before joining the UFC, Giagos competed in Respect in the Cage, Lights Out Promotions and Resurrection Fighting Alliance, among others. “UFC Fight Night 142” marked the fifth UFC bout of the Greek-American fighter.

Hirota was born in Isahaya on May 5, 1981. He is a former Sengoku Lightweight Champion.

Aside from Sengoku, Hirota also competed in Shooto and DEEP before joining the UFC. “UFC Fight Night 142” marked the ninth UFC bout of the Japanese fighter.

Fight Result

Hirota and Giagos competed in the lightweight division at “UFC Fight Night 142.” After three five-minute rounds, the contest was left in the hands of the judges.

In the end, the referee raised the hand of Giagos, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision. It improved the professional MMA record of the Greek-American fighter to 16 wins and 7 losses.

This marked Giagos’s first win in the UFC and the fifth loss of Hirota in the promotion. The Japanese fighter now has 18 wins, 9 losses and 3 draws.

“UFC Fight Night 142” Main Event

In the main event, Junior “Cigano” dos Santos, 34, of Cacador, Santa Catarina, Brazil will face Tai “Bam Bam” Tuivasa, 25, of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in the heavyweight division.
