[PHOTOS] Ireland vs New Zealand: Cian Cowley, John Brewin fight at ‘Brave 22: Storm of Warriors’ in Manila, Philippines

Ireland and New Zealand were among the eight countries represented at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” It was the first show of Bahrain-based mixed martial arts Brave Combat Federation to be held in the Philippines.

Featuring nine MMA bouts, “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on March 15, 2019. In the co-main event of the evening, John Brewin, 24, of Auckland, New Zealand faced Cian “The Warrior” Cowley, 25, of Dublin, Ireland.

It was Brewin’s fourth bout in Brave CF. On the other hand, it was Cowley’s third outing in the promotion.

Blue Corner

Cowley has been competing professionally since 2017. Fighting out of Straight Blast Gym Ireland in Dublin, he is teammates with former UFC Lightweight Champion Conor “The Notorious” McGregor, 30, of Dublin.

When Cowley made his Brave CF debut at “Brave 13: European Evolution” at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland on June 9, 2018, he knocked out Daniel “Obi Wan” Olejniczak, 31, of Belfast. On November 16, 2018, Cowley knocked out Hardeep Rai, 22, of London, England at “Brave 18” at the Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town, Bahrain on November 16, 2018.

Red Corner

Fighting out of Bali MMA in Bali, Indonesia, Brewin made his MMA debut in 2015 and turned professional in 2018. He won two of his three previous Brave CF bouts.

Brewin knocked out Rai at “Brave 12: KHK Legacy” in Jakarta, Indonesia on May 11, 218 and Ahmed Amir at “Brave 17” in Lahore, Pakistan on October 27, 2018. On December 22, 2018, Brewin lost to Anas “The Moroccan Sensation” Siraj Mounir, 32, of Dubai, United Arab Emirates via unanimous decision at “Brave 20” in Hyderabad, India.

Fight Results

Brewin and Cowley competed in the lightweight division at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” After three five-minute rounds, the bout was left in the hands of the judges.

In the end, the referee raised the hand of Brewin. The New Zealander was declared the winner via split decision.

Winning at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” improved Brewin’s professional MMA record to 5 wins and 1 loss. On the other hand, Cowley now has 2 wins and 2 losses.

“Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” Main Event

In the main event, former Brave CF Featherweight Champion Elias “Smile” Boudegzdame, 25, of France challenged reigning Brave CF Bantamweight Champion Stephen “The Sniper” Loman, 23, of the Philippines. The Filipino defending champion knocked out his French-Algerian opponent via strikes.

Bahrain, Finland, France, India, Pakistan and the Philippines were also represented at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” Brewin and Cowley were the sole representatives of New Zealand and Ireland, respectively.
