The Philippines was among the eight countries represented at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” It was the first show of Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion Brave Combat Federation to be held in the Philippines.
Featuring nine MMA bouts, “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on March 15, 2019. The fourth bout of the evening was between Filipino fighters Rex “T-Rex” de Lara, 36, and Jayson “Oragon” Margallo, 24.
While Margallo is training out of Underground Battle Mixed Martial Arts (UGB MMA) in Marikina City, Metro Manila, de Lara is training out of the Mindanao Ultimate MMA (MUMMA) gym in Cagayan De Oro City, Misamis Oriental, Philippines. Both fighters made their Brave CF debut at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.”
As an amateur fighter, Margallo had 2 wins and 1 loss. He made his professional MMA debut in 2015.
The UGB MMA fighter was coming out of rear-naked choke submission victory against Mohd Rashiddin Hamsa of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. They faced each other at “Big3 MMA Productions Cage Wars: Battle in Legazpi” in Ibalong Centrum for Recreation in Legazpi, Albay, Philippines on August 18, 2018.
De Lara has been competing professionally since 2010. He was riding a two-bout winning streak.
The MUMMA athlete is one of the only two fighters to defeat reigning Brave CF Bantamweight Champion Stephen “The Sniper” Loman, 23, of the Philippines. Training out of Team Lakay in La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines, the latter lost to the former at “PXC 51” on January 16, 2016 at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Parañaque City, Metro Manila.
Thomas Fan served as the referee of the bantamweight bout between De Lara and Margallo at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” After three five-minute rounds, the bantamweight contest between the two Filipino fighters was left in the hands of the judges.
In the end, Fan raised the hand of Margallo. He was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Winning at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” improved Margallo’s professional MMA record to 5 wins and 6 losses. On the other hand, de Lara has 9 wins and 7 losses.
“Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” Main Event
Cian “The Warrior” Cowley, 25, of Dublin, Ireland and John “The Trouble” Brewin, 24, of Auckland, New Zealand competed in the lightweight division in the co-main event of the evening. The Kiwi contender won via split decision.
In the main event, former Brave CF Featherweight Champion Elias “Smile” Boudegzdame, 25, of France challenged reigning Brave CF Bantamweight Champion Stephen “The Sniper” Loman, 23, of the Philippines. The Filipino defending champion knocked out his French-Algerian opponent via strikes.
Bahrain, Finland, France, India, Ireland, New Zealand and Pakistan were represented at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” Margallo and de Lara were two of the 11 Filipino fighters on the card.
