The Philippines and Bahrain were among the eight countries represented at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” It was the first show of Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion Brave Combat Federation to be held in the Philippines.
Featuring nine MMA bouts, “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on March 15, 2019. In the second bout of the evening, Jason “Python” Vergara, 22, of the Philippines faced Hussain “Iron” Ayyad, 25, of Bahrain.
Ayyad was born in Manama, Bahrain on November 10, 1993. He is training out of Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa Mixed Martial Arts (KHK MMA) in Manama.
“Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” marked Ayyad’s fourth Brave CF bout. He won two of his three previous bouts in the Bahrain-based MMA promotion.
Vergara has been competing professionally since 2017. He is training out of Fightworks MMA in San Pedro, Laguna, Philippines.
“Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” marked Vergara’s Brave CF debut. He previously competed in UGB and Predator Fight Series.
Vergara and Ayyad competed in the bantamweight division at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” Referee Thomas Fan put a stop to the contest after 1 minute and 31 seconds in the first round when the Bahraini fighter submitted his Filipino opponent via triangle choke.
Winning at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” improved Ayyad’s professional MMA record to 3 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, Vergara now has 3 wins and 2 losses.
“Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” Main Event
Cian “The Warrior” Cowley, 25, of Dublin, Ireland and John “The Trouble” Brewin, 24, of Auckland, New Zealand competed in the lightweight division in the co-main event of the evening. The Kiwi contender won via split decision.
In the main event, former Brave CF Featherweight Champion Elias “Smile” Boudegzdame, 25, of France challenged reigning Brave CF Bantamweight Champion Stephen “The Sniper” Loman, 23, of the Philippines. The Filipino defending champion knocked out his French-Algerian opponent via strikes.
Finland, France, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan were also represented at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” Vergara was one of the 11 Filipino fighters on the card while Ayyad was the sole representative of Bahrain.
