The Philippines and Finland were among the eight countries represented at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” It was the first show of Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion Brave Combat Federation to be held in the Philippines.
Featuring nine MMA bouts, “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on March 15, 2019. In the third bout of the evening, Jon Chris “Happy Feet” Corton, 26, of La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines faced Abdul “Abba” Hussein, 21, of Espoo, Finland.
It was Hussein’s third bout in Brave CF. On the other hand, it was Corton’s second outing in the promotion.
Born in a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, Hussein was a young boy when he and his family moved to Finland. In 2015, he represented Finland at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation European Open Championships in Birmingham, England, United Kingdom.
Training out of Espoon Kehähait in Espoo, Finland, Hussein was submitted by Nawras “The Honey Badger” Abzakh, 26, of Jordan via guillotine choke at “Brave CF 10” on March 2, 2018. On December 8, 2018, the Palestinian-Finnish MMA fighter defeated Sylvester “Gladiator” Chipfumbu, 26, of Zimbabwe via unanimous decision at “Brave 19: South Africa” at Sun City Resort in North West, South Africa.
Training out of Team Lakay in La Trinidad, Corton has been competing professionally since 2012. He studied Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management-Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Management at Saint Louis University in Baguio City, Philippines.
On September 21, 2018, Corton made his Brave CF debut at “Brave 16” at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates where he defeated Hussein “Iron” Ayyad, 24, of Manama, Bahrain via unanimous decision. Before joining Brave CF, the Team Lakay athlete competed in the Universal Reality Combat Championship and Pacific Xtreme Combat.
Corton and Hussein competed in the flyweight division at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” Referee Tomasz Bronder put a stop to the contest after 3 minutes and 14 seconds in the first round when the Palestinian-Finnish contender submitted his Filipino opponent via ninja choke.
Winning at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” improved Hussein’s professional MMA record to 6 wins and 1 loss. On the other hand, Corton now has 6 wins and 4 losses.
“Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” Main Event
Cian “The Warrior” Cowley, 25, of Dublin, Ireland and John “The Trouble” Brewin, 24, of Auckland, New Zealand competed in the lightweight division in the co-main event of the evening. The Kiwi contender won via split decision.
In the main event, former Brave CF Featherweight Champion Elias “Smile” Boudegzdame, 25, of France challenged reigning Brave CF Bantamweight Champion Stephen “The Sniper” Loman, 23, of the Philippines. The Filipino defending champion knocked out his French-Algerian opponent via strikes.
Bahrain, France, India, Ireland, New Zealand and Pakistan were also represented at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” Corton was one of the 11 Filipino fighters on the card while Hussein was the sole representative from Finland.
