For the first time, Ringstar Asia of Scott Patrick Farrell and MP Promotions of Manny Pacquiao co-promoted a boxing event along with Sanman Promotions of Jim Claude Manangquil. The weigh-ins for the event titled “Rising Stars” took place at Resorts World Manila in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on March 22, 2019 and the fight night was held at the same venue the next day.
“Rising Stars” featured 11 boxing bouts. The sixth match was between Muhamad “The Chosen Wan” Ridhwan, 31, of Singapore and Cris Leon, 27, of the Philippines.
Leon stands 5’4″ and weighs 126 lbs. His boxing style is southpaw.
Representing Fight Factory Boxing Gym, Leon made his professional boxing debut on October 10, 2010. He is trained by Tacy Macalos and managed by Vilma Acosta.
Representing Legends Fight Sport, Ridhwan stands 5’5″ and weighs 126 lbs. His boxing style is orthodox and he is the reigning International Boxing Organization Intercontinental Featherweight Champion.
Ridhwan made his professional boxing debut on February 27, 2016 and is currently trained by Joven Jimenez and managed by Ringstar Management. The Singaporean boxer previously held the IBO International Super Featherweight Championship, Universal Boxing Organization World Super Featherweight Championship and World Boxing Association Asia Super Featherweight Championship titles.
Ridhwan and Leon’s bout was set in six three-minute rounds. They competed in the featherweight division with Danrex Tapdasan as a referee.
After six three-minute rounds, the bout was left in the hands of the judges. Both Eduardo Nobleza and Sammy Bernabe scored it 56-55 in favor of Leon while Jerrold Tomeldan scored it 55-56 in favor of Ridhwan.
Winning at “Rising Stars” via split decision improved Leon’s professional boxing record to 12 wins, 18 losses and 5 draws. On the other hand, Ridhwan now has 11 wins and 2 losses.
In the co-main event, Filipino boxers Rene Mark Cuarto, 22, and Samuel “Silent Assassin” Salva, 21, competed in an International Boxing Federation Minimumweight title eliminator. Cuarto won via unanimous decision.
In the main event, Filipino boxers Kenny “Big Heart” Demecillo, 26, and Michael “Gloves on Fire” Dasmarinas, 26, and competed in an IBF Bantamweight Championship title eliminator. Dasmarinas won via unanimous decision.
Pacquiao graced the event with his wife Jinkee Pacquiao, 40, and their children. They were also with NBA coach Metta World Peace, 39, who was previously known as Ron Artest.
Among the 22 boxers on the card, Ridhwan was the only Singaporean contender and the only non-Filipino fighter. Check the complete fight card and results on Conan Daily.
