[PHOTOS] Kenny Demecillo vs Michael Dasmarinas at MP Promotions, Ringstar Asia’s ‘Rising Stars’ at Resorts World Manila

For the first time, Ringstar Asia of Scott Patrick Farrell and MP Promotions of Manny Pacquiao co-promoted a boxing event along with Sanman Promotions of Jim Claude Manangquil. The weigh-ins for the event titled “Rising Stars” took place at Resorts World Manila in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on March 22, 2019 and the fight night was held at the same venue the next day.

“Rising Stars” featured 11 boxing bouts. In the main event, Filipino boxers Kenny “Big Heart” Demecillo, 26, and Michael “Gloves on Fire” Dasmarinas, 26, competed in an International Boxing Federation Bantamweight Championship title eliminator.

Dasmarinas stands 5’6″ and weighs 118 lbs. His boxing style is southpaw and he is the reigning International Boxing Organization World Bantamweight Champion.

Representing Hardstone Monis Boxing Gym, Dasmarinas made his professional boxing debut on January 15, 2012. Trained by Epetacio Agapay and managed by Ringstar Management, he is a former Philippine Boxing Federation Bantamweight Champion, an Interim PBF Super Flyweight Champion and a two-time World Boxing Council Youth World Super Flyweight Champion.

Demecillo stands 5’5″ and weighs 118 lbs and his boxing style is orthodox. He is a former World Boxing Federation Intercontinental Bantamweight Champion, a two-time WBF Asia Pacific Bantamweight Champion and an Interim World Boxing Association Oceania Bantamweight Champion.

Representing Omega Boxing Gym, Demecillo made his professional boxing debut on March 18, 2012. He is trained by Julius Erving Junco and managed by Omega Pro Sports International.

Fight Result

Demecillo and Dasmarinas’s bout was set in four three-minute rounds. They competed in the bantamweight division with Danrex Tapdasan as the referee.

After 12 three-minute rounds, the bout was left in the hands of the judges. Silvestre Abainza scored the bout 116-112 while Greg Ortega and Gil Co scored it 115-113 and 117-111, respectively.

In the end, Tapdasan raised the hand of Dasmarinas, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision. The loss downgraded Demecillo’s professional boxing record to 14 wins, 5 losses and 2 draws.

On the other hand, Dasmarinas now has 29 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw. By winning at “Rising Stars,” he has a chance to face IBF World bantamweight champion Emmanuel Rodriguez of Puerto Rico.

Pacquiao graced the event with his wife Jinkee Pacquiao, 40, and their children. They were also with NBA coach Metta World Peace, 39, who was previously known as Ron Artest.
