[PHOTOS] Rene Mark Cuarto vs Samuel Salva at MP Promotions, Ringstar Asia’s ‘Rising Stars’ at Resorts World Manila

For the first time, Ringstar Asia of Scott Patrick Farrell and MP Promotions of Manny Pacquiao co-promoted a boxing event along with Sanman Promotions of Jim Claude Manangquil. The weigh-ins for the event titled “Rising Stars” took place at Resorts World Manila in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on March 22, 2019 and the fight night was held at the same venue the next day.

“Rising Stars” featured 11 boxing bouts. The co-main event of the evening was between Filipino boxers Rene Mark Cuarto, 22, and Samuel “Silent Assassin” Salva, 21.

Blue Corner

Salva stands 5’1″ and weighs 105 lbs. His boxing style is orthodox and he is the former Philippines Mindanao Professional Boxing Federation (MINPROBA) Mininumweight Champion.

Representing RCJ Boxing Gym, Salva made his professional boxing debut on January 31, 2016. Trained by Arnold Y. Palafox and managed by Neil Francis Rafael, he entered the ring as an undefeated boxer.

Red Corner

Cuarto stands 5’2″ and weighs 105 lbs. His boxing style is orthodox and he is the reigning World Boxing Organization Oriental Minimumweight Champion.

Representing MP Boxing Gym, Cuarto made his professional boxing debut on July 28, 2014. He is trained and managed by Raides Neri.

Fight Result

Cuarto and Salva’s bout was set in 12 three-minute rounds. They competed in an International Boxing Federation Minimumweight title eliminator with Teddy Alivio as the referee.

After 12 three-minute rounds, the bout was left in the hands of the judges. Both Silvestre Abainza and Arnie Najera scored it 116-112 while Gil Co scored it 117-111.

In the end, Alivio raised the hand of Salva, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision. The loss downgraded Cuarto’s professional boxing record to 16 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw.

By winning at “Rising Stars,” Salva is still an undefeated boxer. He now has 17 wins and 0 loss.

Main Event

In the main event, Filipino boxers Kenny “Big Heart” Demecillo, 26, and Michael “Gloves on Fire” Dasmarinas, 26, and competed in an IBF Bantamweight Championship title eliminator. Dasmarinas won via unanimous decision.

Pacquiao graced the event with his wife Jinkee Pacquiao, 40, and their children. They were also with NBA coach Metta World Peace, 39, who was previously known as Ron Artest.
