[PHOTOS] Ronnie Balnonado vs Elias Joaquino at MP Promotions, Ringstar Asia’s ‘Rising Stars’ at Resorts World Manila

For the first time, Ringstar Asia of Scott Patrick Farrell and MP Promotions of Manny Pacquiao co-promoted a boxing event along with Sanman Promotions of Jim Claude Manangquil. The weigh-ins for the event titled “Rising Stars” took place at Resorts World Manila in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on March 22, 2019 and the fight night was held at the same venue the next day.

“Rising Stars” featured 11 boxing bouts. The ninth match was between Filipino boxers Ronnie “Jong Jong” Balnonado, 23, and Elias Joaquino, 27.

Blue Corner

Joaquino stands 5’4″ and weighs 113 lbs. His boxing style is orthodox.

Representing Wakee Salud Boxing Stable, Joaquino made his professional boxing debut on June 18, 201. He is trained by Crisology Flores and managed by Rex Wakee Salud.

Red Corner

Baldonado stands 5’3″ and weighs 113 lbs. His boxing style is orthodox.

Representing MP Boxing Gym, Baldonado made his professional boxing debut on January 31, 2015. He is trained and managed by Raides Neri.

Fight Result

Baldonado and Joaquino’s bout was set in 10 three-minute rounds. They competed in the flyweight division with Ferdinand Estrella as a referee.

Estrella put a stop to the contest after 34 seconds in the seventh round. Judges Eduardo Nobleza and Danilo Lopez both scored it 69-64 while Sammy Bernabe scored it 70-63 all in favor of Baldonado, who was declared the winner via technical decision.

Winning at “Rising Stars” improved Baldonado’s professional boxing record to 14 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw. On the other hand, Joaquino now has 12 wins, 4 losses and 2 draws.

Main Events

In the co-main event, Filipino boxers Rene Mark Cuarto, 22, and Samuel “Silent Assassin” Salva, 21, competed in an International Boxing Federation Minimumweight title eliminator. Cuarto won via unanimous decision.

In the main event, Filipino boxers Kenny “Big Heart” Demecillo, 26, and Michael “Gloves on Fire” Dasmarinas, 26, and competed in an IBF Bantamweight Championship title eliminator. Dasmarinas won via unanimous decision.

Pacquiao graced the event with his wife Jinkee Pacquiao, 40, and their children. They were also with NBA coach Metta World Peace, 39, who was previously known as Ron Artest.
