USA vs Sweden: Jose Torres, Amir Albazi fight at ‘Brave 23: Pride and Honor’ in Jordan

The United States, Sweden and Iraq were among the 16 countries represented at “Brave 23: Pride and Honor” on April 19, 2019. It was the second Brave Combat Federation event to take place in the country.

Featuring 12 mixed martial arts matches, which included three title bouts, “Brave 23: Pride and Honor” took place at the Martyr Rashid Al-Ziyoud Hall Boxing Arena in Amman, Jordan. The seventh bout of the evening was between Jose “Shorty” Torres, 26, of the U.S. and Amir “The Prince” Albazi, 25, Iraq and Sweden.

Torres solely represented the U.S. at “Brave 23: Pride and Honor” while Albazi was one of the two fighters who represented Sweden and one of the two fighters who represented Iraq. Bahrain, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, England, France, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Russia, South Africa, Tunisia and Wales were also represented.

Blue Corner

Albazi made his successful professional MMA debut in 2009 and in the same year, he earned his second professional MMA win. Born in Baghdad, Iraq, he relocated with his family to Sweden because of war.

“Brave 23: Pride and Honor” marked Albazi’s Brave CF debut. He competed in Bellator MMA from 2017 to 2018.

Red Corner

Torres made his successful professional MMA debut in 2016. In the same year, he earned two more wins.

“Brave 23: Pride and Honor” marked Torres’s Brave CF debut. He previously competed in Titan Fighting Championship and in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Fight Result

Torres and Albazi competed in the flyweight division.

After three five-minute rounds, the flyweight contest was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, the referee raised the hand of Torres, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

All of the judges scored the bout 29-28 in favor of Torres. It made him the first fighter to defeat Albazi in a professional MMA bout.

Winning at “Brave 23: Pride and Honor” improved Torres’s professional MMA record to 9 wins and 1 loss. Albazi now has 11 wins and 1 loss.

Mounir “The Sniper” Lazzez, 31, of Tunisia and Eldar “Khan” Eldarov, 27, of Bahrain competed for the inaugural Brave CF Super Lightweight Championship title in the second co-main event. [RESULT TO BE ADDED HERE]

Abdoul “Sinistro” Abdouraguimov, 23, challenged reigning Brave CF Welterweight Champion Jarrah “The Jordanian Lion” Al-Selawe, 26, of Jordan in the main event. [RESULT TO BE ADDED HERE]
