India and the Philippines were among the 19 countries represented at “ONE: Enter the Dragon” on May 17, 2019. ONE Championship held the combat sports event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore.
Featuring 10 mixed martial arts matches and six ONE Super Series contests, which were six kickboxing bouts, “ONE: Enter the Dragon” was the Singapore-based martial arts organization’s second event in 2019 that took place in Singapore. The first bout was between Rahul “The Kerala Krusher” Raju, 27, of Kerala, India and Richard “Notorious” Corminal, 37, of Manila, Philippines.
Raju was the sole representative of India at “ONE: Enter the Dragon” while Corminal was one of the two representatives of the Philippines. Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Moldova, the Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine and the United States were also represented.
Originally from Manila, Corminal moved to Malaysia in 2011. He is training out of Muayfit PJ in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
Corminal has been competing professionally since 2012 and joined ONE Championship in 2017. “ONE: Enter the Dragon” marked his fourth outing in the promotion.
Raju was 14 years old when he started his training in kung fu. Originally from Kerala, India, he relocated to Singapore and studied Mechatronic Engineering at Temasek Polytechnic in Tampines, Singapore.
“ONE: Enter the Dragon” marked Raju’s fourth ONE Championship bout. Training out of Juggernaut Fight Club in Singapore, the Indian MMA fighter has been competing professionally since 2016 and joined the promotion in 2018.
Raju and Corminal competed in an MMA match in the lightweight division. Kemp Cheng served as the referee.
Cheng put a stop to the lightweight contest after 4 minutes and 43 seconds in the first round. Raju submitted Corminal via rear-naked choke.
Winning at “ONE: Enter the Dragon” improved the professional MMA record of Raju to 6 wins and 4 losses. On the other hand, Corminal now has 4 wins and 5 losses.
“ONE: Enter the Dragon” Main Events
Both fighting out of the Netherlands, Nieky “The Natural” Holzken, 34, and Regian “The Immortal” Eersel, 25, competed for the inaugural ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Championship in the co-main event. The latter won the title via unanimous decision.
Christian “The Warrior” Lee, 20, of Singapore challenged reigning ONE Lightweight World Championship: Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki, 35, of Japan in the main event. The Singaporean challenger dethroned the Japanese defending champion via technical knockout.
