[PHOTOS] Philippines vs South Korea: Drex Zamboanga, Seung Hyun Cho fight at ‘URCC Global: Raw Fury’ at Cove Manila, Parañaque City

The Philippines and South Korea were among the six countries represented at “URCC Global: Raw Fury.” Hosted by Boyet Sison, it was the first event of the Philippines-based mixed martial arts promotion URCC Global in 2019.

Featuring 10 MMA matches, “URCC Global: Raw Fury” took place at The Cove at Okada Manila in Parañaque City, Metro Manila, Philippines on April 27, 2019. In the fourth bout of the evening, “The Sniper” Cho Seung Hyun, 26, of South Korea challenged reigning URCC Global Bantamweight Championship Drex “T-Rex” Zamboanga, 29, of the Philippines.

Zamboanga was among the 17 hometown heroes who competed at “URCC Global: Raw Fury” while Cho was one of the two fighters who represented South Korea. China, Japan, Switzerland and the United States were also represented.

Blue Corner

Training out of Korecrazy Kwang Gym and Top Gym BF in South Korea, Cho has been competing professionally since 2016. “URCC Global: Raw Fury” marked his second URCC Global bout.

Red Corner

Training out of Tough Guys International Philippines in Las Piñas, Metro Manila, Zamboanga has been competing professionally since 2013. “URCC Global: Raw Fury” marked his ninth URCC Global bout.

Fight Result

The match between Zamboanga and Cho, which was one of the five title bouts at “URCC Global: Raw Fury,” was a bloody. Florence Eusebio served as the referee.

Zamboanga landed a knee to Cho’s face few seconds before the end of the first round. The Korean challenger survived the round but he was bleeding profusely.

In the end, Eusebio raised the hand of Zamboanga. The Tough Guys International Philippines athlete was declared the winner via doctor stoppage.

Winning at “URCC Global: Raw Fury” improved the professional MMA record of Zamboanga to 8 wins and 5 losses. On the other hand, Cho now has 5 wins and 2 losses.

“URCC Global: Raw Fury” Main Events

Shunichi “Rolling Star” Shimizu, 34, of Kuchinoerabu, Japan challenged reigning URCC Global Featherweight Champion Mark “Mugen” Striegl, 30, of Baguio City, Philippines in the co-main event. It ended in a No Contest due to an accidental low blow from Striegl, who is still the reigning champion.

Musa Conteh, 32, of Atlanta, Georgia, United States challenged two-division champion Chris Hofmann, 29, of the Philippines and Switzerland for the URCC Global Middleweight Championship title in the main event. The Filipino-Swiss defending champion knocked out his American challenger.
