[PHOTOS] China vs Pakistan: Hexigetu, Ovais Shah fight at ‘ONE: Warriors of Light’ in Thailand

China and Pakistan were among the 15 countries represented at “ONE: Warriors of Light.” It was the second ONE Championship event in 2019 held in Thailand.

Featuring five mixed martial arts bouts and seven ONE Super Series bouts, which included three kickboxing contests and four Muay Thai matches, “ONE: Warriors of Light” took place at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on May 10, 2019. The first bout of the evening was between “Wolf of the Grasslands” Hexigetu, 30, of Horqin, Inner Mongolia, China and Ovais “The Enigma” Shah, 30, of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.

While Hexigetu was one of the two fighters who represented China at “ONE: Warriors of Light,” Shah solely represented Pakistan. Algeria, Australia, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Cyprus, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Portugal, Thailand and the United States were also represented.

Born in Pakistan on October 10, 1988, Shah has been fighting professionally since 2012. He is a Dangal Grappling Champion.

Training out of Team 3G and 3GMMA, Shah is making his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Warriors of Light.” He previously competed in Pak Fight Club and PAKMMA Fighting Alliance.

Red Corner

Training out of China Top Team, Hexigetu was the CMPC 2015 Fighter of the Year and the former CMSL Champion. Exposed to Mongolian wrestling at an early age, he started training sanda in 2010 and made his professional MMA debut in 2014.

“ONE: Warriors of Light” marks Hexigetu’s second ONE Championship bout. He previously competed in Kingway and Beijing Combat, Dacheng Wuyi and War Promise, among others.

Fight Result

Hexigetu and Shah competed in an MMA match in the strawweight division. Yoshinori Umeki served as the referee.

After three five-minute rounds, the strawweight contest was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Umeki raised the hand of Hexigetu, who was declared as the winner via unanimous decision.

Winning at “ONE: Warriors of Light” improved the professional MMA record of Hexigetu to 6 wins and 4 losses. On the other hand, Shah now has 3 wins and 3 losses.

“ONE: Warriors of Light” Main Events

Petchdam Petchyindee Academy, 20, of Thailand and Elias “The Sniper” Mahmoudi, 21, of Algeria competed for the inaugural ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Championship in the co-main event. The Thai contender won via technical decision after an accidental groin attack in the fourth round.

Hiroaki “Kaibutsukun” Suzuki, 34, of Japan challenged reigning ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Nong-o Gaiyanghadao, 32, of Thailand in the main event. The Thai defending champion won via unanimous decision.

The official open workout for “ONE: Warriors of Light” took place in Bangkok on April 25, 2019. It featured NongO and Petchdam along with their fellow Thai ONE Championship athletes “The Iron Man” Rodtang Jitmuangnon, 21, Singtongnoi Por Telakun, 38, Superlek Kiatmoo9, 23, and Pongsiri “The Smiling Assassin” Mitsatit, 22.
