[PHOTOS] Japan vs Argentina: Mei Yamaguchi, Laura Balin fight at ‘ONE: Enter the Dragon’

Japan and Argentina were among the 19 countries represented at “ONE: Enter the Dragon” on May 17, 2019. ONE Championship held the combat sports event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore.

Featuring 10 mixed martial arts matches and six ONE Super Series contests, which were six kickboxing bouts, “ONE: Enter the Dragon” was the Singapore-based martial arts organization’s second event in 2019 that took place in Singapore. The fourth bout was between Mei “V.V.” Yamaguchi, 36, of Tokyo, Japan and Laura “La Gladiadora” Balin, 39, of Argentina.

Yamaguchi was originally set to face Meng Bo, 23, of China at “ONE: Enter the Dragon.” The Chinese contender was pulled out from the card due to injury and was replaced by Balin.

While Yamaguchi was one of the four representatives of Japan at “ONE: Enter the Dragon,” Balin solely represented Argentina. Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, the Republic of Moldova, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine and the United States were also represented.

Blue Corner

A former Gladiadores MMA Women’s Strawweight Champion, Balin represents Kaesha Team. She was born in Concordia, Entre Rios, Argentina.

Balin has been competing professionally since 2011 and she joined ONE Championship in 2018. “ONE: Enter the Dragon” marked her third outing in the promotion.

Red Corner

A former DEEP Jewels World Champion, Yamaguchi was 7 years old when she started her training in karate in the U.S. and is currently training out of Riki Gym, Gods and HybridFighter. She went to Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

As an MMA fighter, Yamaguchi has been competing professionally since 2009 and she joined ONE Championship in 2016. “ONE: Enter the Dragon” marked her eighth bout in the promotion.

Fight Result

Yamaguchi and Balin competed in an MMA bout in the women’s atomweight division. Olivier Coste served as the referee.

Coste put a stop to the atomweight bout after 3 minutes and 46 seconds in the first round. Yamaguchi submitted Balin via armbar.

Winning at “ONE: Enter the Dragon” improved the professional MMA record of Yamaguchi to 20 wins, 11 losses and 1 draw. On the other hand, Balin now has 11 wins and 5 losses.

“ONE: Enter the Dragon” Main Events

Both fighting out of the Netherlands, Nieky “The Natural” Holzken, 34, and Regian “The Immortal” Eersel, 25, competed for the inaugural ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Championship in the co-main event. The latter won the title via unanimous decision.

Christian “The Warrior” Lee, 20, of Singapore challenged reigning ONE Lightweight World Championship: Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki, 35, of Japan in the main event. The Singaporean challenger dethroned the Japanese defending champion via technical knockout.
