Bangar, La Union’s John Leo Dato still undefeated, knocks out Juan Antonio Lopez in Las Vegas, Nevada

Hailing from Bangar, La Union, Philippines, John Leo “The Lion” Dato, 26, is still undefeated. The Filipino boxer beat his American opponent at “Welterweight Supremacy” on July 20, 2019.

Promoted by Tom Brown’s TGB Promotions and Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions, “Welterweight Supremacy” took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. In the first bout of the evening, Dato fought Mexican-American boxer Juan Antonio “The Wolf” Lopez, 25, of Dallas, Texas, USA.

Dato and Lopez competed in the featherweight division scheduled for eight rounds. The referee put a stop to the contest after 2 minutes and 5 seconds of the fifth round when the Filipino boxer knocked out his Mexican-American opponent.

Winning at “Welterweight Supremacy” improved Dato’s professional boxing record to 12 wins and 1 draw. On the other hand, Lopez now has 14 wins and 7 losses.

It was Dato’s ninth professional boxing bout in the U.S. while all of his other bouts took place in Mexico. His next bout will take place at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California, USA on October 4, 2019.

Born in Bangar on June 9, 1993, Dato made his professional boxing on December 15, 2016 at the AS Boxing Arena in Tijuana, Mexico. He knocked out Manuel Bernal of Tijuana in the third round.

In the main event of “Welterweight Supremacy,” Pacquiao fought  World Boxing Association Super World Welterweight Champion Keith “One Time” Thurman, 30, of the U.S. Including Dato and Pacquiao, four Filipino boxers were on the card.

Both from Davao City, Davao del Sur, Philippines, Genisis “Cobra” Libranza, 25, and Jay-ar “Hitman” Inson, 28, also competed at “Welterweight Supremacy.” Libranza knocked out Carlos “Mighty” Maldonado, 28, of the U.S. while Inson was knocked out by Sergey “Samurai” Lipinets, 30, of Russia.
